Pricing

What decides the price of a plumber in North Attleboro

Quotes for similar-sounding jobs can differ. These are the five reasons.

The work

A thermostat, an element and a tank are different amounts of labor.

Access

A basement run in the open is simpler than a pipe in a finished wall.

Materials

Pipe type, tank size, fuel and softener capacity all matter.

Diagnostics

A camera or locator is used only when the problem calls for it.

What the work reveals

An old pipe can show damage beyond the first leak.

Eight town wells and two treatment plants

A groundwater supply run by the Town

The Town’s Department of Public Works runs the water system. Its source is eight groundwater wells in the Ten Mile River and Blackstone basins, including the Hillman and Adamsdale wells. Six are treated at the McKeon or Whiting Street plants and two on the western side go straight into the system. The Town activated a carbon filtration plant at McKeon in November 2024 and has a Whiting Street upgrade planned for the following years. The same system sells part of its output to Plainville.

Groundwater tends to carry more dissolved minerals than reservoir water. That is general chemistry, not a number for your tap, so ask the Water Division for a hardness figure or read the annual report. Scale on fixtures, in kettles and in water heaters gives you everyday evidence. Our water heater repair page covers scale-related tank trouble.

Deciding about treatment

A water softener treats scale across the house, while a filter deals with taste, odor or particles at a tap or at the entry point. They solve different problems. The order is simple: get a hardness figure, check how the heater is holding up, then decide. See water softener installation and water filtration for the choices.

In order
  1. Ask for hardness

    From the Water Division.

  2. Check the heater

Flush a little water and look for grit.

  3. Pick the problem to solve

    Scale, taste or both.

  4. Plan upkeep

    Any treatment needs attention.

Four steps to a decision.
Service lines

The Town’s lead service line offer, and what to ask

A program announced in the 2024 water report

The Town’s 2024 water quality report said it planned to eliminate lead service lines over five years and offered to replace the private portion at no cost to the owner. It also asked owners whose service material was unknown to check and report. Programs change, so ask the Water Division whether the offer is still open and what it covers for your address.

If you are planning a water line repair or a repipe, mention the program before work begins, so the private-side work matches what the Town will do at the street.

Sewer system

A collection system that began in 1910 and carries extra water in wet seasons

Old pipe, new load

The Town runs the sewer collection system, around 57 miles of pipe, with the first lines laid in 1910. Pipe materials include vitrified clay, PVC and asbestos cement. A 2009 state environmental filing found that groundwater and stormwater leaking into the sewers made up a large share of the flow at the treatment plant, which also receives sewage from Plainville. It also noted septic system failures in a few areas, so not every household is on the sewer.

For a homeowner, this reads as a reason to know your own line. A sewer camera inspection shows cracks, offsets and root intrusion, and sewer line repair or trenchless sewer repair fixes them. Hydro jetting clears buildup from a pipe that is otherwise sound.

If you are on septic

Septic homes watch different clues: a lawn that stays wet over the tank or field, slow drains throughout the house, gurgling and odors. Keep vehicles off the field. Pumping schedules and inspection questions belong to a septic specialist, while we can look at the lines between the house and the tank. The drain guide is a place to start if only one fixture is slow.

Basements and storms

Groundwater, thaw and the sump pump

Wet-season basements

In a town fed by groundwater wells, the water table is part of daily life. It rises in spring, and a pit pump that has been idle for months has to start working. A float that sticks or a check valve that fails is the usual culprit. The sump pump repair page lists the faults, and the steps in what to do when a pipe bursts apply when water reaches a finished area.

Questions

North Attleboro plumbing questions

Where does North Attleboro get its water?
The Town’s Department of Public Works runs a system based on eight groundwater wells in the Ten Mile River and Blackstone basins. Most are treated at the McKeon or Whiting Street plants.
Is North Attleboro water hard?
Groundwater often carries more minerals than reservoir water. For a figure at your address, ask the Water Division or read its annual report. Scale in kettles and heaters is the everyday sign.
What is the Town doing about lead service lines?
Its 2024 report said it planned to replace them over five years and offered to replace the private portion at no cost to owners. Ask the Water Division whether the offer is still open.
Are all North Attleboro homes on the sewer?
No. The Town runs about 57 miles of sewer pipe, but some areas use septic systems. A sewer charge on your bill tells you which you have.
Who do I ring for a plumber in North Attleboro at night?
This number. A person answers around the clock, and same-day service is available for leaks, backups and failed pumps.
What decides the price of a plumber in North Attleboro?
The task, the access, the parts and the findings of an inspection. Ask about pricing when you call.
Why would two heater jobs end at different totals?
The size of the tank, the fuel, the venting run and the state of the old unit all alter the work.
My basement drain gurgles after heavy rain. Why?
Older sewer pipes can take in stormwater and groundwater, which adds load downstream. A camera inspection on a dry day shows whether your own lateral is the narrow point.
What if sewage comes up in the basement?
Stop using water, keep children and pets clear, do not touch it, and call.
What do I do if a pipe freezes?
Close the main valve, open the nearest tap, warm the pipe slowly and call if it has split.
Is there a North Attleboro office?
No. North Attleboro calls come to the same single line as every other town we cover.
